Prayer Rooms In The Workplace?
Employers with Muslim employees are beginning to add prayer rooms, according to Ibraham Hooper, spokesperson for the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR; Washington, D.C.; 202.488.8787; www.cair-net.org). Having a space set aside for prayer can save time and disruption, Hooper said, since devout Muslims pray five times a day.
The rooms are usually designated for prayer at the request of an informal employee committee, Hooper said. For help in addressing issues related to Muslim religious practices and possible accommodations, CAIR has published An Employer's Guide to Islamic Religious Practices.
