Recently, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously decided that the American with Disabilities Act is significantly narrower in its scope than some had previously believed in cases involving inability to perform manual tasks.
The Supreme Court found that unless the "manual task" limitations affect activities that are of central importance to most people's daily lives, the ADA does not apply. In other words, being unable to perform manual tasks required only at work will NOT trigger ADA protection unless the impairments impact daily life outside of work in areas such as "household chores, bathing and brushing one's teeth."
