Over 93,000 Dead: Fifteen-Year Job-Fatality Report

In two new documents, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) reported that during the years 1980 through 1995, work-related injuries claimed 93,338 lives in this country. Even when this sobering statistic is averaged out, the number of on-the-job deaths per year, over 5,800, illustrates the continuing need for improved occupational safety.
