Warning-SCAM Artists Impersonating EPA Inspectors
Apparently, some scam artists have taken the trade to a new level of
artistry. Individuals posing as EPA Inspectors will arrive at a facility
and request an inspection. The phony inspectors will flash an "official"
looking badge identifying them as EPA employees.
During the course of the conversation, the inspectors will ask for money to
leave the premises. Companies have paid these con artists.
Suggestion: IF you are in doubt do the following
- Ask to see the identification and make a copy of the identification.
Tell them they you will need to verify their place of employment or
district office.
Here is where it can be real fun. Ask them if they know " key individuals"
at the local office or district office. (The old W.W.II trick to identify
impostors by asking suspect individuals who played for a particular
baseball team)
- Call the OEPA District office to verify employment.
